Privacy Policy for Animal Identifier: AniSnap
Last Updated: June 10, 2026
Animal Identifier: AniSnap ("AniSnap," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, Animal Identifier: AniSnap (the "App").
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By accessing or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the App.
1. Information We Collect
We believe in data minimization and transparency. We collect the minimum amount of data required to provide the core functionality of the App: identifying animals from photos and managing your subscriptions.
A. Photo & Image Data (For Identification Only)
- What we collect: When you use the App's camera to take a photo of an animal or upload a photo from your library, we temporarily access and process the image.
- How permission is requested: Before a photo is sent for AI analysis, the App shows an in-app disclosure explaining what data is sent, who receives it, and asks for your permission to continue.
- How it is used: If you give permission, the image is optimized, encoded as a base64 string, and transmitted securely via HTTPS to the OpenRouter API, which routes the request to AI providers such as Google Gemini and OpenAI, to perform visual identification of the animal.
- Storage: We do not store your images on our servers. Images are only processed in memory for the duration of the API call. Identification results and the photo you submit are stored locally on your device as part of your scan history.
B. Local Scan History (On-Device Storage)
- Scan results, optional saved favorites, and the photo associated with each scan are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage mechanisms.
- This data is never transmitted to our servers. Clearing scan history from within the App or deleting the App removes this data.
C. Learning Card Details (Premium Feature)
- What we collect: If you choose to generate learning cards, the App sends the generated animal scan details, such as the likely animal name, habitat, diet, behavior notes, and safety notes.
- How permission is requested: The App asks for your permission before sending these scan details to a third-party AI service.
- How it is used: If you give permission, the scan details are transmitted securely via HTTPS to OpenRouter, which may route the request to AI providers such as Google Gemini and OpenAI, to create educational learning cards. Your original photo is not sent for this learning-card request.
D. Subscription & Purchase Information
- Subscription purchases are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We receive an anonymous user identifier and entitlement status, for example whether you have an active premium subscription.
- We do not receive your full payment details. Apple is the sole processor for in-app purchases.
E. Device & Diagnostic Data
- We may receive limited, non-personal diagnostic data from Apple, such as crash logs, if you have opted into sharing app analytics with developers via your iOS Settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide AI-powered animal identification and educational information.
- To generate optional premium learning cards when you request them.
- To maintain your local scan history and saved favorites.
- To manage your free and premium entitlements.
- To improve app reliability through aggregated, anonymous diagnostics.
3. Third-Party Services
AniSnap uses the following third-party services:
- OpenRouter (openrouter.ai): Routes AI inference requests, including image, prompt, and optional scan detail data, to model providers such as Google Gemini and OpenAI. Third-party AI services that receive this data are required to provide the same or equal privacy protection for the data they process for AniSnap's requested AI inference. Please review OpenRouter's privacy policy for details.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription state and restoration. Receives anonymous purchase identifiers.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit: Processes in-app purchases.
We do not sell your data. We do not use scan images for advertising tracking.
4. AI Disclaimer
Animal Identifier: AniSnap provides educational AI-generated information only. AI identification may be inaccurate. Results should not be used as professional wildlife, veterinary, emergency, or safety advice. Do not touch, feed, approach, or handle unknown animals. For dangerous, injured, protected, or unclear animals, contact local wildlife authorities or a qualified professional.
5. People in Photos
Please avoid uploading photos that contain identifiable people. The App focuses only on the visible animal. We do not perform face recognition. If you submit an image that contains a person, that image is still sent to AI providers for animal identification only; please crop or avoid such images if privacy is a concern.
6. Children's Privacy
AniSnap is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can remove it.
7. Your Choices
- You can clear all locally stored scan history from within the App at any time via Settings → Clear Scan History.
- You can revoke camera or photo library permissions at any time via iOS Settings.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription via your Apple ID account settings.
8. Data Retention
Locally stored scan history remains on your device until you delete it. Subscription entitlement data is retained by RevenueCat in accordance with their policies for as long as your subscription is active.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
